Connection

Connection is where the magic and chemistry is!

As a photographer connecting with what I am photographing is very important.  If you are not connected with what you are photographing it will show.  You do not have the ambition to capture what you are hoping to.  This goes from photographing wildlife, landscape, close-up and even doing portraits (from individual to weddings).

How do I connect with my subject?  Now, I am going to focus on photographing a client.

When you reach out to Cowboy Photography, whether through social media, website or in person.  We will have a basic initial conversation about who you are, what you are looking for and the location, and when.  If all this information works, I will setup another meeting, preferable in person.  Why in person?  I want in person meeting because it helps both you and I make sure we are going to work well together, that old phrase “got to have chemistry” is true.  At this meeting, we will go into more detail about why you want to do this photo shoot, location, timing and what are the end results you are looking for.  If I am photographing a family, kids or a pet; I will ask information about them individually like interests, upsets them, makes them happy, gets them excited, etc.

Why do I need all this information? Isn’t a little too personal?  This may seem like a lot of information and personal, even for a headshot, I understand this.  This information is important because for the little time we will be together, this is the insight into who you are beside our interactions.  This is how we will grow that connection more quickly.  For a headshot, this information is important, because, if for a company, there may be certain requirements that is needed, and I do not want to waste your or their time and money.

For location: I will go and learn about that location.  I will look at images of it through social media, website (if available), satellite images from google, etc.  So, when I get there, I will know what you are talking about and learn about other options to help make your vision come a reality.  I will also check weather, so will know what conditions I will be dealing with and have a plan to handle it.

Family information:  I use this to help me learn more about who I am photographing.  This information is very helpful with children because if they are having a bad day, I will know ways to get that smile.  More importantly, I can use it to make a connection with your child/ren to say they will feel comfortable getting their photograph taken.

So, when you tell me what your outcome is.  It is my desire, and any photographer, to fulfill this outcome for you.  Therefore, from the first meeting, I am making this all-important connection.  That is why I enjoy making this connection with, because through it is where the magic and chemistry comes from.

Come and create natural beauty magic with Cowboy Photography!
